In the recently published paper "experimental research on 3D printing process parameters of PEEK material", researchers from shandong university of technology studied the optimal parameters of 3D printing PEEK material to make artificial bone.
After a number of experiments, a variety of 34-mm long, 12-mm wide and 3-mm high cubes were 3D printed. The best parameters for PEEK were 0.43 mm thick, 55.05% inner filling density and 1.39 outer outline.
"The control system records the printing time and the length of the printed material, and the quantity of printed material is calculated according to the length of the material. The storage modulus was measured by dma-q800, a dynamic thermomechanical tester." The authors explain in their research paper. "The box-behnken design matrix was used and the 3D printing parameter optimization process was designed experimentally. Referring to the previous studies, the layer thickness called factor A, the internal filling density called factor B and the contour called factor C were selected as research objects in aspects of printing time, consumption of printing materials and modulus of storage.
In the verification experiment, the researchers used the above optimal parameters and achieved success compared with the control model. The authors point out that the effect of each output response is crucial compared to the factors in the study, because the interaction of these factors has a large impact on the outcome. "Validation experiments were carried out to verify the correctness of the model and the optimization results," the researchers concluded.
